Resilient Roots Project Information Sheet & Listening Session Registration Survey
Infusing Diversity to Enhance Adapted Treatment Preparation (IDEA-P)
Principal Investigators: Sheree Toth, Ph.D., Jody Manly, Ph.D.
Who is conducting this study?
This is a research project being run by Drs. Sheree Toth and Jody Manly, as well as Dr. Allison Stiles, Delta Koudaya-Keith, and Dr. Linda Alpert-Gillis. They are all clinical psychologists and licensed mental health counselors at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY.
What is this study about?
The goal of these listening sessions is to learn more about how we can make our services be more responsive to Black youth and families. We will talk about changes to the type of trauma therapy provided to Black youth and their families. The information shared in these listening sessions will guide us in how best to offer a culturally responsive trauma therapy for Black youth (ages 10-14) exposed to trauma and their families.
What will happen if you do this study?
If you decide to take part in a listening session, you will be asked to:
- Complete the brief listening session registration survey below.
- Participate in a 90-minute listening session with other caregivers or Black and Brown youth or community members who work closely with Black youth ages 10-14. These listening sessions may occur in person or online over Zoom, depending on your location and preferences. For any in-person groups, current COVID-19 safety guidelines will be followed.
- During the listening sessions we will tell you about the project and what changes we hope to make to improve the cultural relevance of URMC Pediatric Behavioral Health and Wellness services for Black youth exposed to trauma and their families. We will ask you how you think families and mental health providers would react to these changes to current services and what that could look like. This will help us design and develop an adapted approach to offering trauma therapy that is more culturally responsive. We will ask you to think about what challenges might come up when offering this new therapy and how we might be able to overcome those challenges.
- We will record the listening sessions and take notes to help us remember what everyone said; however, the project team will ensure that your comments are kept separate from any identifying information.
- Communicate with you by phone or email to schedule focus groups and process gift card payments. Email communications between you and the study team may be filed in your research record. Messages will be limited to appointment reminders and payment confirmation.
