Connection in Caregivers Screening |
Thank you for your interest in the Connection in Caregivers study. We are inviting you to learn more about this study and to complete a brief questionnaire (approximately 5 minutes) to determine if the study might be a good fit for you.
The Connection in Caregivers study is seeking participants who are at least 50 years old and are providing care and support to a family member or loved one with dementia. The purpose of the Connection in Caregivers study is to discover how social relationships impact feelings of stress in both positive and negative ways for those caring for somebody with dementia. This study is conducted remotely (telephone or zoom) and involves 2 research interviews and online surveys.
If you decide to take part in a screening survey today, you will answer questions about caregiving and how you feel. Based on this information, you may be eligible to provide your contact information to the study team so that they can call/email you to schedule a time to learn more about the Connection in Caregivers study.
Because you will be answering questions about stress and feelings of isolation, you may experience some emotional discomfort. You are free to not answer any questions that make you feel uncomfortable. There are no other expected risks for you for participating in this survey; there are also no anticipated benefits.
You will not be paid for completing this survey today; there will be no cost to you to participate. If you are eligible for Connection in Caregivers, the research assessments for that study do provide compensation (by check). To maintain the integrity of the study, subjects will not be compensated if suspected of fraudulent behavior.
Before you agree to participate, there are some additional things you should know about this study.
The University of Rochester will make every effort to keep the information collected from you private. In order to do so, all of the data we collect from you in this survey is stored on a highly secured platform for data collection that is only accessible by the researchers. Sometimes, however, researchers need to share information that may identify you with people who work for the University, regulators, or the study sponsor. If this does happen we will take precautions to protect the information you have provided. Results from this survey and any other work conducted by our investigators may be presented at meetings or in publications, but your name will not be used.
You will have the opportunity to provide your contact information at the end of the survey if you are interested in Connection in Caregivers. Thus, we have to get your permission to use and give out your personal health information. We will use your survey data to determine your eligibility for Connection in Caregivers.
Your permission to use your health information for this study will not expire unless you tell us you want to cancel it. We will keep the information we collect about you for 5 years. If you cancel your permission, your survey data will be removed from the research database.
Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. You are free not to participate or to withdraw at any time, for whatever reason. No matter what decision you make, there will be no penalty or loss of benefit to which you are entitled.
